A New Golden Age & Our Hottest Takes: A Recap of Our Wrestling Spotlight TV Interview!
We are still buzzing from our incredible first-ever TV interview with the amazing team at Wrestling Spotlight TV. It was an absolute blast, and we wanted to share a recap of some of the topics we discussed—including a few of our spiciest takes!
If you missed it, you can catch the full video at the bottom of this post, but for now, let's dive into some of the highlights.
The "New Golden Age" of Pro Wrestling
One of the first things we touched on was how amazing it is to be a wrestling fan in 2024. For those of us who grew up watching it, the current landscape truly feels like a new golden age. We were talking about how you can now watch pro wrestling on network television up to four nights a week!
The accessibility is incredible. You have:
-
WWE Raw on Netflix
-
NXT on The CW
-
AEW Dynamite on TBS
-
AEW Collision on TNT
-
SmackDown on USA
-
Not to mention TNA coming to cable soon!
We also touched on how fascinating the current partnerships are, like the crossovers we're seeing between TNA and NXT. It's an exciting time to be a wrestling fan, with so many options and interesting storylines unfolding across different promotions.
Hot Takes: AEW, Blood, and Scheduling
Of course, no Main Event Mamas conversation is complete without some hot takes, and we didn't hold back! We dove deep into the current wrestling climate, especially the debate around AEW and WWE.
I recently watched AEW Forbidden Door and was blown away by the excitement and constant action—to the point of even enjoying it more than Clash in Paris! However, it brought up a key point: Is AEW's style "too much" for a casual fan? With all the tricks, attacks, and especially the blood, it can be a lot.
This led to a bigger conversation about the level of violence. While we grew up with the bloody, gritty wrestling matches of the past (we're looking at you, Ric Flair), we noted that we're not sure we would want to expose young kids to that level of violence today. It’s a completely different landscape, and it's a valid concern for many parents.
We also discussed the ongoing "war" between AEW and NXT, particularly when they schedule big events on the same day. Our take? It hurts AEW to do that. While both organizations have different strategies, we think it would be smarter for AEW to avoid scheduling their events on the same day as WWE to prevent dividing the audience. There's plenty of room for everyone to succeed without competing for eyeballs on the same night.
We had an amazing time sharing our thoughts with Wrestling Spotlight TV, and we hope you enjoy watching our takes!
